LGBTQ RIGHTS

LGBTQ Americans continue to lack basic legal protections all across the country, and continue to face unfair discrimination and persecution. This is unacceptable, and we must defend the rights of all Americans regardless of their identity.

Oppose First Amendment Defense Act: The First Amendment Defense Act is an abhorrent assault on basic human rights, and would allow businesses to deny service to people based on their perceived sexual orientation just as businesses could once deny service to people based on the color of their skin. This legislation, and any like it, must be stopped.

Support Do No Harm Act: For too long the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) has been distorted and used as an excuse for some to discriminate and impose their religious beliefs on others. The Do Not Harm Act would amend the RFRA to return it to its original intent of protecting religious freedom, while ensuring that religious beliefs cannot be an excuse to inflict harm upon others. The Do No Harm Act has my full support.

Support Equality Act: I support the Equality Act and its goals of providing consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people across areas like housing, education, employment, credit, public spaces and services, as well as many others. To support anything less is un-American.
